Dr. N. Ravi Sundaresan

PROFESSOR

Dr. N. Ravi Sundaresan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Cell Biology at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru. He earned his Ph.D. from the Indian Veterinary Research Institute and completed postdoctoral training in cardiovascular cell biology at the University of Chicago. His research explores the molecular mechanisms behind heart failure, cardiac hypertrophy, and metabolic diseases. His laboratory specifically investigates sirtuins—a family of histone deacetylases—using transgenic animal models and cellular techniques. The ultimate goal of his scientific work is to discover new therapeutic targets to improve cardiovascular health and treat muscle degeneration

Objectives of the Course

Real-time Quantitative PCR and applications; Next-Generation Sequencing; Antisense technology and RNA silencing techniques.

Recombinant protein production in bacteria and mammalian cells; Generation of Lentiviral, retroviral, and Adenoviral vectors.

Gene therapy; Generation of induced pluripotent stem cells; Genome editing by Cas9/CRISPR technology.

Generation of transgenic and mutant Caenorhabditis elegans, plants, and mice.

Use of transgenic technology in modeling human diseases, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, cancer, atherosclerosis, neurodegenerative diseases, muscle degeneration, and aging.
