Dr. Thirumaleswara Naik

Dr. Thirumaleswara Naik

PRINCIPAL RESEARCH SCIENTIST

He is a senior research scientist in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IISc Bengaluru. He holds a Ph.D. from IIT Delhi and completed his M.E. and B.E. from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. His research focuses on internal combustion engines, hybrid and electric vehicle systems, alternative fuels such as biofuels and hydrogen, combustion, and emissions control. He also explores AI/ML applications in engine performance and diagnostics. Dr. Naik leads the Internal Combustion Engines Research Laboratory at IISc, conducting both experimental and computational studies. He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in IC engines, automotive engineering, and thermodynamics. He has authored numerous publications in international journals and conferences. He is actively involved in government-funded projects on clean fuels and efficient engine technologies. His work bridges fundamental research and practical automotive applications.

Objectives of the Course

Provides hands-on engineering of Large Language Models (LLMs), focusing on the challenges of building, optimizing, and deploying them.

Students will cover the entire lifecycle from: Transformer foundations, GPU scaling,Inference optimization,Fine-tuning Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) Agentic tool use,Deployment on edge devices

Students will learn through real-world case studies, labs, and projects. By the end, students will be equipped to design production-grade LLM systems for both research and industry applications
