Prof. N. Ravi Sundaresan

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

Dr. Ravi Sundaresan obtained Ph.D. from Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Bareilly, India. He worked as a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Chicago in the field of Cardiovascular Cell biology. He is currently working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Cell Biology. His research interests are understanding the molecular basis of heart failure using transgenic animal models. His laboratory uses genome editing techniques to decipher the role of histone deacetylases in the development of heart failure.

Objectives of the Course

Genetic Engineering is the direct manipulation of an organism’s genes using biotechnological tools.

Covers recombinant DNA technology, genome editing, transgenic technology, and biotechnology applications.

Applied in research, medicine, industrial biotechnology, and agriculture.

Focus on creation of genetically modified organisms for research and industrial use.

Recombinant bacterial systems: Growth, maintenance, transformation and transfection.

Molecular cloning tools: Vectors, enzymes, and DNA, RNA, protein isolation methods.

Labeling and hybridization techniques for nucleic acids and proteins.

Gene and cDNA cloning and construction of genomic and cDNA libraries.

Nucleic acid sequencing methods, including Next-Generation Sequencing

Protein analysis and interactions; site-specific mutagenesis.

PCR techniques including Real-time Quantitative PCR; antisense and RNA silencing.

Recombinant protein production and CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing.

Advanced technologies: Exome sequencing, ChIP sequencing, viral vectors, gene therapy, and iPS cells.

Transgenic technologies and disease models using organisms such as C. elegans and knock-out mice.
